Tours of the City

Walking Tours
Walks of Rome (tel: (06) 484 853; website: www.walksofeurope.com) offer a wide variety of tours, ranging from a highly informative two-hour 'Ancient City Walk', covering the ruins of the Forum, to a three-hour 'Pub Crawl' with free drinks and entrance to a disco-bar at the end. Guides are English speakers with backgrounds in history of art. For the majority of tours, travellers can "just show up" at the designated time and meeting point (listed on the website) and pay on the spot without pre-booking. Private group tours and personalised tours covering "off the beaten track" sights can also be arranged.

Bus Tours
The number 110 ATAC bus (tel: (06) 46951) departs from Piazza dei Cinquecento (daily 1030, 1400, 1500, 1700 and 1800) for a two-hour tour (with commentary) around Rome's main sights. Tickets and a leaflet outlining the itinerary are available in English at the ATAC information office outside Termini station. The tour costs L15,000, and there are four stops en route.

Boat Tours
