Getting to Rome by Water

Sea: The port of Civitavecchia is about an hour's train ride from Rome. The port is run by the Authorità Portuale di Civitavecchia, Via Prato del Turco, Civitavecchia. Facilities include a waiting room, ATMs, left luggage and a bar.

Ferry services: Ferry services to and from Sardinian ports are run by Tirrenia Navigazione (tel: (0766) 58191; website: www.tirrenia.it).

Transport to the city centre: Trains from Civitavecchia to Rome run approximately every 30 minutes; a first-class ticket costs about L20,000. Taxis cost about L150,000 to central Rome. If there are no taxis waiting at the port, companies will come out on call (see Taxi section). Some hotels send taxis to pick up their guests - which often works out cheaper.
